I was snuggling with my beautiful newborn baby girl as she settled down to sleep. 

As a new mom, I was experiencing a plethora of emotions. I felt uncertainty in my ability to handle this, fear that I would somehow mess things up, and boy, was I tired! And, I also felt a profound sense of joy and pride, gratitude that she was whole and healthy, and a marvelous expansion of my heart to love this little girl boundlessly.  I had a powerful desire to give my absolute best to my daughter and do everything in my power to help her grow into who she was created to be. 

As I snuggled her in close to me, my daughter’s face was turned to the side, allowing me to see her side profile.  I was instantly struck by the simplicity and sheer beauty of the curve of her nose.  From the space between her eyes to the tip of her nose, the curve was truly perfect and lovely.  I was reminded of Psalm 18:30, which says, "As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true.”  I may have given birth to her, and my husband and I were the ones changing her diapers and feeding her in the middle of the night, but we didn’t have any part of designing her.  Seeing that perfect curve reminded me that God created this beautiful little girl and planned out every part of her – her hair color, her personality, her laugh - right down to the lovely curve of her nose. 

Several years later, we were blessed with another beautiful newborn baby girl.  As I held her for the first time, I did what all new moms do and just stared at how beautiful she was.  In addition to experiencing those same “new mom” emotions, I was inspired and touched by the simple, beautiful curve of her nose that mirrored her older sister’s.  I was reminded once again of how God designed this little girl and planned out every facet of her, right down to the lovely curve of her nose. 

The perfect curve that God created in my daughters is how Curvati jewelry was born.  When I sketched the first piece, I traced the
curve of my daughters’ noses from their newborn photos.  Each piece that I create has that signature curve as its foundation.  While I may be designing the jewelry, that perfect curve was His creation. 

“Curvati” is Italian for “curved” when referring to a plural noun (such as two curved baby girl noses).  My grandmother was from Italy and was one of the most influential people in my life.  The name was chosen to honor her memory, and to celebrate God’s perfection in how He designed not just my daughters, but in how He designed every person ever created. 

The signature Curvati curve is more than just a shape. Curvati jewelry is designed to be a simple, yet tangible reminder that
we are all beautiful in His eyes.  God created each of us perfectly.  He put incredible intention and love behind designing each of us – our appearance, our personalities, our quirks, our dreams - and He doesn’t make mistakes.  Genesis 1:27 tells us that we are made in His image – He is proud of us, and wouldn’t change a thing.  He loves us for exactly who we are.  Too often in this life, we don’t trust or have confidence in God’s design for us, or in ourselves.  We look in the mirror and wish certain parts of our appearance were different.  We doubt our abilities, our intelligence, and our power.  We feel insecure.  We compare ourselves to others.  We want things we don’t have.  We feel judged by people who don’t understand us.  We’re different and don’t always fit in.  We sometimes just feel less, weak, and not enough.  One of the greatest challenges we face in life is remembering that we don’t belong to those lies we tell ourselves; we belong to Him. 

I have faith that my daughters will grow to be kind, strong, resilient women.  Because they are human, I know they will have many moments of insecurity, weakness, and doubt.  I want them to have the tools and strength to rise up from each of those moments in trust, confidence, and joy by remembering Who designed them.  My dream is that they would love, appreciate, and celebrate themselves for exactly who they are. 

It is my truest hope that the wearer of each piece of Curvati jewelry will let the design be a long-lasting, tangible reminder to rise above their doubts and cultivate their own confidence in exactly who they are.  I envision a teenager just starting middle school, wondering if she will fit in and make friends, touching the Curvati pendant around her neck throughout the day to remind herself that she is beautiful and good inside and out.  I picture a professional woman walking into a corporate conference, hoping her outfit looks stylish, and feeling like she doesn’t deserve to be there; she feels her Curvati bracelet gracing her wrist, and finds strength in remembering that she is enough.  I imagine a bride on her wedding day wearing a classy Curvati necklace that matches the one she gave each of her bridesmaids as a reminder that in spite of life’s changes, it is essential to remember that we are loved and cherished and enough just as we are.
